About 5 hours into every flight to Hawaii I start looking out the window.  I strain to see through the clouds looking for that most familiar of all landmarks,  Diamondhead.  When I see it, I know I'm home.   Andy Cummings wrote the song, "Waikiki" on a cold, foggy night in Lansing, Michigan.  He wanted to go back to the Islands.  I know how Mr. Cummings felt. Here's a shot of??? Yes it's Waikiki's main boulevard, Kalakaua Avenue in the '50's.
That's the Liberty House center frame.  The photo was taken directly across the street from The International Marketplace.
Note: 2-way traffic, parking on the street and telephone lines in the air.  That bus stop is still there.

A view from the Halekulani Hotel -- When you see Diamondhead from this vantage point you hear the strains of the Hawaiian Steel Guitar.
